An interesting new study published in the prestigious journal Nature Cancer in 1/2020. she tested thousands of different drugs that are in use today and found interesting results of their influence on tumor cells in laboratory conditions. The investigators tested a total of 4,518 drugs on 578 human cancer cell lines, and among them, they identified about 50 drugs with antitumor effects that were previously unknown. Tested drugs are used in the treatment of various diseases, such as diabetes, inflammation, alcoholism, and even arthritis in dogs. The results shed new light on oncology therapy, which could enable the accelerated development of new antitumor drugs in the future.
